SRO thieves guide

Well, as a thief in SRO, you will need the following supplies:

1. The thief follows: there are 2 guys, the 10k black suit and the 1m black devil suit. According to Joymax, there is no other difference than appearance and cost. They come in both men and women, don’t forget to buy the correct gender. It can be purchased in Thief Town.

2. Bandit Den Return Scrolls: These are different than normal Return Scrolls. They take you to the city of thieves. They also take about 5 minutes to complete (you will get 3-4 thief spawns during that time). Also, you can move around and attack things while you wait. Make sure you have several as you may need to reboot. They are bought in the city of thieves.

3. Transport: Some people like the horse because it is agile, others prefer the camel because it holds more and has more HP. I use a camel. Bring some. Buy them from the stable of any town.

4. Hunter card: Yes, hunter card, it can be purchased from the hunter’s guild merchant.

5. Transportation health pills: 50-100 should be fine. Buy them from any stable, 3 sizes, the large ones work well on most transports, the XL is great for oxen.

6. Friends: Always have a few around you, although it is not necessary, it sure helps. The higher the level, the better.

There are a few ways to be a thief. It is resistant at lower levels, below 30 (SRO Power Leveling, SRO Gold). Make sure you can kill any monsters in the area where you are, as well as your spawns. Initially, I would recommend gathering a group of thieves to swarm a multi-star, or even easier, find the loot on the ground and take it. When you are at a low level you will want to hide with your loot while your scroll activates. Lastly, know when to say when. 4 stars is hard to handle alone, 5 almost impossible, take only what you can handle.

1. Here is a typical scenario. I see a lot of loot (more than 5 piles on the ground). I quickly scan the area for hunters (or angry merchants). I lulo, put the suit and call my transport. Note that you cannot summon a transport within 20 seconds of combat. So if you are in an aggressive area, kill all monsters first. Dismount your transport and start left-clicking on the merchandise. Once you have them, right-click on the bandit lair return scroll and walk away (I’ll talk about this later).

Scenario n. 2. I see what I think is a multiple star. First I look at his equipment. I wonder can I take them? Do I have zerk (useful but not necessary)? If so, proceed.

2. Get away (out of sight), upgrade, put on the suit and summon a transport (that stupid 20 second rule applies to attack anything, including merchants). If you wait to summon a transport, an opportunistic thief or friend of the type you killed can get dressed and grab some or all of the loot first (remember that hunter card). If his level is close to mine, I wait until his thieves show up and then I attack. Hit the biggest threat first, then move on to the next target. If they are near a teleportation area, take out their transport first. You have a choice, you can let its thieves kill the transport (saving organization points) or you do it. I usually kill him because I want to get away fast. Kill his thieves in the end and then start grabbing the loot. Now get out.

Note: you have a few options here, kill the merchant or let him live. Usually they will attack you to make your choice. However, I also like to follow the “dead men tell no tales” rule. Kill them all, don’t pray, as they might follow you or lead you to hunters, thus ruining your fun.

3. Get out with the loot.

OK now what? Much of this answer depends on your attitude, level, and number of friends with you. Before you start stealing, find some hiding places. They are everywhere. They can range from a mountain, water, bush or tree, or even a secluded grinding spot.

4. Grab your loot, ACTIVATE YOUR SCROLL, and exit the area. Don’t start moving in the direction you really want to go unless you are very confident or in a hurry. Misdirection is key so that you are not found or killed. If possible, ask your friends to explore it in front of and behind you. It can also make one distract a hunter who may be nearby. Go to your favorite hideout and prepare to fight the spawns (or any hunter / trader that might pass).

5. As your scroll approaches the last 30 – 45 seconds, climb into your transport. It has a lot of horsepower, so if you are attacked, you may be able to survive better. If you have a 3 stars or better it is advisable to have help. A double spawn with cold swords will ruin your day. Also, if you die, your loot is hidden and you can return. Some people will sit in the middle of the road waiting for other multi-stars to attack and fill up their transport, this takes a bit of guts but can be effective. Once the scroll is finished, congratulations on being in the city of thieves.

How to detect a multiple star

One way is to stalk an exchange and wait for the thieves to show up, if they get 2 it can be a 2 star, or a double spawn in 1 star, the only way to know is to look at someone else or put on your suit. Once you have your suit on, you can double click on a merchant (or their transport). If you start attacking it is a multiple star, if you get a blue message about attacking a star it is a single star. If you are stalking, it is advisable to look from behind, out of the merchant’s sight, but keeping your transport in sight.

Thief Town

This is where you buy your thief outfit, the bandits’ lair return scrolls, and sell your loot. The loot is sold for face value (you weren’t really in this for the money, were you?). Sell loot clears exp. From the merchant. There are 2 main NPCs, one that sells thief gear and one that buys loot. The other remarkable thing is the protractor. Using it is free and takes you to your spawn point. I recommend removing the thief suit before teleporting as it resets the cooldown timer. So basically get there, sell your loot, finish your transport, desuit, and teleport.
