Your apartment – Making the most of space

Few people move into an apartment and start complaining that they have too much space. Often the exact opposite is true. When you live with roommates or just an important person, the issue of space can become more important than ever. However, if you’re on a budget, you may not be able to afford a larger venue. No problem! With a few creative maneuvers, you’ll find you can create space where there wasn’t before. Here are some of the best ways to make the most of the space you have. Put these tips into practice and those days of feeling overwhelmed and unhappy will be a thing of the past.

Turn on

No, you don’t need to change your mood. Rather, use natural and artificial light to create an illusion of space. A dark room will always seem much narrower than a well-lit one. Unfortunately, many apartment models have almost no lights of their own. You’ll find them in the bathroom and kitchen, but you probably won’t find them in any of the other rooms. Many tenants will not do enough to fix this on their own. They’ll put a lamp here and there, but they won’t actually aim for brightness. Try again. Head to the store, get some really bright lamps or ceiling lights and go wild. You will notice the positive difference immediately.

Bright colors

Likewise, bright colors will add to the illusion of more space in a small apartment. That deep red sofa and black coffee table may seem like the essence of modern design, but those colors tend to add claustrophobia to an already small setting. If you want to open up the design, get rid of those colors and let in some pastels, some whites, and other shades that feel nice and fresh. If you are allowed to paint the walls, consider doing so. You probably won’t be able to change the rug, but you can do a lot with your furniture.

Keep clean

If you really look around you, you may find that clutter is causing more problems than the actual lack of space. Don’t let clutter take hold in your tiny apartment. Take the packages you receive out of their boxes and dispose of the cardboard immediately. Don’t let shopping bags sit on your kitchen table for days. Go around your apartment with a pen and a notepad. Write down anything you can part with, even if it just means putting it in a self-storage facility. If possible, eliminate it entirely and you won’t have to worry about adding another bill to your responsibilities.
