Teak Wood Floor Maintenance

This type of flooring is beautiful, exotic and elegant and can make your restaurant look elegant in its own way. Among hardwood floors, it is considered one of the most durable and lowest maintenance woods available on the market today. With regular teak wood floor maintenance, the fine-grained texture can remain beautiful for years. It is an excellent type of flooring to use in high traffic areas. To make your floor look elegant, there are some simple tips to follow when cleaning teak floors.

Teak cleaners

Using cleaners that are specifically made for cleaning teak wood is very helpful when getting rid of mold and mildew that can form on floors. This can cause black stains on your floors. There are two types of cleaners available on the market, including:

• One-part cleaners: They are gentler in nature and require ten to fifteen minutes of gentle rubbing.

• Two Part Cleaners – These are a bit harsher as the first part contains an application of acid followed by a light scrubbing and then there is a neutralizer that is used to clean up excess acid.

Although they are effective at cleaning blackheads from your teak floor, they can damage the floor, so you need to be careful how often you use them.

Vacuum every week

Another tip for the maintenance of teak wood floors is that you should vacuum them every week. Using a cylinder vacuum cleaner is very effective on your teak floor. The reason is that this type of vacuum is specifically designed to clean hard floors and they use powerful suction to clean the debris and dust that can make your teak floor look dull.

Regular mopping

This is one of the best teak wood floor maintenance tips when it comes to basic cleaning. You do not need special cleaners to scrub the floor. Just use plain water. Make sure your mop is damp and not dripping. If the mop is too damp, it could cause the floor to lose its shine and luster and could cause the wood to swell. Rub it gently on the floor to help prevent dust particles from accumulating on the floor.

General advice

• To help prevent mold and mildew build-up and reduce wood shrinkage, use a humidifier during winter.

• To help maintain shine and luster, apply teak oil at least once or twice a year. It will not affect the durability, but it is a good idea for cosmetic purposes.

• Buff the teak floor once a month to help lift dust and restore the shine and luster of the wood.
